About Global Weekly
Events From Around the Globe
Global Weekly was created with one goal in mind. To make sense of the ever-changing, and increasingly hostile geopolitical climate we find ourselves in today. In the face of huge environmental issues, the first major war in Europe in decades, and changing global power structures, it can be difficult to keep track with what's going on.
The decades of peace and relative stability, following the collapse of the Soviet Union, are coming to an end. New powers arise, as old powers diminish. The threat of nuclear annihilation is higher than most of us have seen in our recent lifetimes. Global inequality continues to soar, as the exploitation of the Global South continues. The emergence of an increasingly authoritarian China, coupled with the faltering democracy in the US, raises many questions about what the future will look like.
As the world gets more hostile, and the geopolitical climate becomes increasingly volatile and confusing, this blog aims to clear the fog, and make sense of this bizarre world we live in.
Bringing you new articles every Sunday!
Meet the Team
Toby Gill
Founder
A student of History, currently studying at the University of York. Geopolitics has always been a keen interest of Toby's. He created this blog to pursue this interest more actively throughout his studies.
The goal is simple. To create a platform for other international policy and geopolitics enthusiasts, like Toby. The main goal of Global Weekly is to shine light on some of the ignored stories in the world. Most importantly, it's a chance for people to showcase both their passion for foreign affairs, and writing abilities.
Through this website, we hope to bring onboard more and more writers, and to grow Global Weekly into a powerful network, that anyone eager to learn more about the events taking place across the globe can tap into.
Jack Parkinson
Co-Founder and Editor
Jack, currently finishing studies at the University of Warwick, was the first person Toby approached with the idea of starting an online publication dedicated to geopolitical analysis in November 2022.
Geopolitics and public policy has always been Jack's passion and he has pursued many projects such as this in the past. Independent research and analysis is his fortee, conducting funded independent research on drug regulation and even energy security in Europe. It is only fitting then that he continued this work at Global Weekly, and build a network for those passionate about many of the same things,
Jack is particularly keen on the future of international security (such as cyber warfare, space militarisation etc) and the Ukraine War. He is also extremely keen on UK domestic politics and its future after Brexit.
